Introduction

Digital Rights Management (DRM) is a combination of many technologies to provide end-to-end protection for digital contents. Our lab targets to develop highly secured DRM systems to digital home network and digital video broadcast (DVB) system. Besides, all technologies to make a robust DRM system is our research areas, such as encryption, trusted computing, watermarking, etc.

Achievements

DRM System on the DVB Multimedia Home Platform

In a digital home, the high-quality multimedia broadcasted from a DVB system is the main source of the digital contents. However, there is no specification on how to enforce the usage rights of digital content in DVB standards. As a result, even the digital content is protected under the conditional access sub-system, end users can still copy and redistribute these digital contents.

We proposed a DRM system for set-top box which supports Multimedia Home Platform middleware. The rights of the protected digital content are described using the MPEG-21 Rights Expression Language and broadcasted with the digital content. The proposed system stores the rights in the smart card. The proposed system is highly renewable and extensible. The service providers can implement this system in their existing broadcast services without additional hardware cost. The developed system will be presented in [CCNC2006].
